My first week in Tenerife
Hola todo el mundo, ( Hello everyone )
I arrived in Tenerife on time and happy to be in such a place. Found the bus stop I was suppose to be on, with the help of a few very nice bus drivers. Got on the first bus for the day and just tried to concentrate so I can catch the next one from the right place, but the thing is in Tenerife it is very challenging to concentrate on the Proxima Parada (next stop) when the bus is driving right along the coast line and it is during sunset. Let's just say the view was BREATHTAKING!
After a while of views that seem like they were taken from a magazine cover, I got the Ritz - Carlton, Abama to discover that this place that can be described only as surreal. Now is the time to thank my colleague Dimitar for welcoming me at the bus stop, carrying my pretty heavy suitcase and showing me the way to the main entrance. The bell boys, reception people and everyone in general welcomed me the way how it should be, they knew who I was and why I was here. When I got to my room ( the trainees usually have the right to stay in the hotel for one month ) the surprises kept going, first the whole amazing luxury of it all,
then the fact that except my one roommate that I know of Margaryta (my other colleague that is Ukrainian form the institute) i had two other roommates. For the sake of their privacy we can call them The Hungry German Girl and The Mexican Barbie. We all speak different languages, and are going to different departments but during the first week we got close and now I can say I am happy to have them in my life.
The hotel organised us in such a way that the first three days were for the preparation of the various documents we need to work in Spain. We had to go around different villages and cities to get the job done. Although some of the documents were hard to get, here no one really gets angry or worried so we were infected with the tranquilla ( soothing ) state of it all. Got trough different adventures and explored some of area. And at the end of course we got the job done right on time. Then came the Orientation day, where we learned a lot of new and valuable facts about the hotel. We were given our uniforms and the next day was our first day at M.B .
It was very exciting to enter a real Michelin kitchen. We got to work right away of course, and I was put at mise en place, where I learned how to clean various types of fish, squid and saw how to shuck oysters, prepared some little cones from filo pastry for a starter dish, then I was sent to go help the meat station during service were I saw amazing plates and techniques, for a while I was even allowed to do a part of the appetizers. Everything was deeply explained, why I am doing this, to which dish it goes, and so on. Everyone, even tough it is hard for them in English, tries to explain everything and give us advises. Well that was my first week. I will post soon about my new experiences. Hope you like it. Adios ( That one I hope I should not translate COME ON! )
